Blinking UFO at Night

I have had a massive invested interest in this topic. I feel I am skeptical but there is a decent amount of accounts and evidence out there I do believe.
For the past 6 or so months I have been trying to make an effort to familiarize myself with the sky. Both in terms of what stars/planets can be seen, but also being aware of air traffic. Flight paths, speeds, heights of planes etc. I am an avid flight radar user. Though I have never tried tracking satellites/iss etc.
I live in a reasonably populated area with enough light pollution to allow me to see major constellations. But that's about it.
The past few days I have been away from home and staying in the middle of nowhere. The past 2 nights the sky has been very clear and me and my wife have been star gazing. What we can see here verses what we can see at home is unbelievable.
Last night we managed to see a shooting star and something resembling a star moving roughly south to north. Tonight was a different story. I lost count of how many things we seen moving. All in different directions, some were blinking almost in place then would just stop.
I'm not saying ufos. But how could it be explained?
My main though its loads of tiny meteorites burning up in the upper atmosphere. But would they be travelling in different directions if arriving at almost the same time. They were also much slower than a shooting star and not as big or bright. What about the blinking ones?
So many thoughts/questions.
And no, nothing appeared on flight radar.
