Location: Chicago, IL (view from River West, facing south east over the loop).

Date of sighting: 04/21/2023.

Time of sighting: 5:19PM CST.

Duration of sighting: Approx 2-3 minutes.

Number of witnesses: One.

Descripton of sighting:

I am a painter, and I was taking photos of the cloud formations against the skyline for future painting references when I noticed a single object that seemed to be occasionally catching the sunlight. Since it was rush hour, I figured it could have been a traffic helicopter which are quite common. However, I talked by self out of thinking it was anthing unique, so I didn't photograph that object, but my interest was piqued. I wish I would have, as the first object was closer, but I couldn't make out any discernable details of a conventional aircraft.

A few minutes later i looked south east toward the skyline and noticed a group of similar objects moving in what appears to be a formation of sorts, flying northward. It was hard to tell if they would have been directly over the loop (downtown chicago) or slightly eastward over Lake Michigan running parallel to the shoreline. The objects also seemed to be sporadically catching the sun and "flashing" similar to the first object.

After filming the video, I did a preliminary search on ADSB, with no luck finding any recent tracks like that. I regularly observe as if it were traffic helicopters or small planes in formation,but perhaps someone with more experience with a flight tracker might be able to look at that timeframe with more success.

I've also considered that these object could have been birds. With the dark stormcloud as a background, and the low angle of the sun, I can see where seagulls might appear illuminated.

I decided to share this because the shape of the formation seemed consistently geometric.

As for the scale of the objects, they smaller than planes appear in this area.I regularly observe airplanes on their way to OHare or Midway Airport, and I can share another photo for reference of the scale that a commercial jet liner appears against the background.

The video was recorded on a Google Pixel 4a with 2x zoom enabled + a Moment brand 58mm "Telephoto" Lens attachment (lucky!). And for those curious, its John Lennon in the background.A few min before was listenting to "no body told me there'd be days like these." haha, maybe after hearing the line about "ufo's over new york" I might have been primed to look up!.
