The recent 29 Palms evidence offered by Corbell based on Marine Corps eyewitness evidence and testimony has been panned as being nothing more than flares by skeptics such as Mick West and echoed by people such as John Greenwald.

This argument, for it to be possible, would have to account for a visible illumination flare munition capable of burning for at least the 10 minutes of the observed time while staying aloft and in relative formation for the entire time.

We don't have the meteorological data to support or reject a situation that would allow for these parachute flares to stay aloft and in formation for so long, but we do have some information on the possible munition used.

Allowing for the largest artillery visible light illumination munition in the U.S. Army inventory, and likely the same used by Marine artillery units, this round would be the 155mm M1124 Visual Light (VL) Illumination Projectile.

The assumption here is that the larger the munition, the larger the parachute and the larger the burn pack for duration. As described in the Army's 2020 P-40 budget documents, this M1124 flare typically burns for about 75 seconds, "With the main parachute open, the illumination candle descends at 15 feet per second and burns for 75 seconds minimum producing approximately 1,000,000 candlepower."

Yes, 75 seconds is the minimum burn time, but 10 minutes, or 600 seconds, is many times beyond the 75 second threshold specification, and very unlikely.

So, in order to accept West's, and others', suggestion that what the experienced Marine observers saw were nothing but flares, one has to accept both the unusual chemistry or conditions that allowed for a 10+minute burn as well as the atmospheric conditions for such flares to stay aloft and in close formation for so long.

Yes, perhaps the Marines were using a different type of illumination round that perhaps burns longer, but I could not find anything larger than this large caliber flare.

If anyone can offer another, larger illumination round, or one that burns for 600 seconds, as a solution, please provide that information below. Otherwise, the flare solution is not technically viable and we have to more likely consider this as a UAP event.

TL/DR: Have ruled out ground-based munitions. Air-delivered illumination flares only burn for 4 minutes while lights were seen for at least 10 minutes, making the air-delivered flares explanation unlikely.
